NEW JEWISH CEMETERY ESTABLISHED AT ELMWOOD

One of the best kept secrets in Jewish Memphis is that historic Elmwood Cemetery, in partnership with Or Chadash Conservative Synagogue (OCCS), has established a Jewish cemetery section as a very affordable burial alternative for members of the Jewish community. Sanford Fenton, President of OCCS, said, “the people at Elmwood were enthusiastic when we suggested creating a Jewish section on their grounds, and have been easy and helpful to work with.” As is well known, Elmwood provides a beautiful and conveniently accessible location rich in Memphis history. Some important features include perpetual care at no additional cost, non-denominational chapel on site, transferable deeds (interment is restricted, of course, to Jewish individuals), security, and several other important advantages. According to Rabbi Cantor David Julian, spiritual leader of OCCS, “management of the site will continue with strict adherence to halachah, and Elmwood provides meticulous servicing of the grounds.”
